Michael M. Hicks is a Partner Emeritus of the Firm.  He spent thirty years litigating and trying matters in the areas of medical malpractice, toxic tort, professional liability, product liability, real estate disputes and contracts.

Mr. Hicks has litigated and tried numerous matters in Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida and federal bankruptcy courts.  He has argued numerous appeals before a number of state tribunals and federal circuit courts. He has represented judges and lawyers in Bar related and disciplinary matters.  These same individuals seek his counsel and guidance on any number of significant issues.  He has substantial experience representing hospitals and physicians in the areas of professional negligence and compliance questions. 

He has served as lead counsel on various cases involving professional negligence and lawyer misconduct; he routinely handled complex litigation involving retailer liability and toxic torts.  In litigating these cases, Mr. Hicks routinely worked with the leading national and international scientific experts in the fields.  He has represented a number of nationally renowned medical malpractice insurers in difficult matters involving their insured on issues involving psychiatric malpractice, cardio-thoracic surgery, and neurosurgery.  In addition, he has represented property owners and environmental consultants in matters involving multiple chemical sensitivities.  In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he is called upon to speak regularly in the areas of professional liability and toxic tort matters.

Mr. Hicks is a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland Bars.  He is admitted to practice before a number of United States Courts of Appeal.  He is a former member of the Board of Governors of the District of Columbia Bar, a past-president of the Washington Bar Association and member of its Hall of Fame.  He has served with distinction on the Frederick B. Abramson Memorial Foundation as well as an assortment of District of Columbia and federal court bar committees.  He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland.  He is a professorial lecturer in law on the faculty of The George Washington Law School.

He received his B.A. from Haverford College in 1978 and his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School in 1981.
