Joe Bottiglieri is a partner in the firm’s Washington, DC office.  He has over 20 years of experience litigating matters in the areas of product liability, professional liability, complex insurance disputes and contracts.

Joe has tried numerous matters in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, and Florida and has argued appeals in Washington, DC, Maryland and New Jersey.  Named by the McDonald’s Corporation’s Tort Litigation Practice Group as their outside attorney of the year in 2003, and receiving an award from McDonald’s for Outstanding Achievement in 2009, he has substantial experience representing food manufactures and retailers across the United States in the areas of food safety and contracts.

He has extensive experience working on matters involving foodborne pathogens, product tampering, food allergens, and the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act.  Currently the lead defense counsel on various cases across the country involving allegations of foodborne illness including E. coli 0157:H7, Joe routinely handles complex litigation involving foodborne illness outbreaks.  In litigating these cases he routinely works with the leading national and international scientific experts in the field.  He is currently litigating matters involving:

  • An E.coli O157:H7 outbreak in New York involving a beef retailer;
  • A restaurant chain in Missouri involving E.coli O157:H7 allegations;  
  • A food distributor in the 2006 Taco Bell E.coli O157:H7 outbreak in the Northeast;
  • A national restaurant chain involving food allergens and gluten sensitivities in several states;
  • A restaurant chain in New York City involving E.coli O157:H7 allegations;
  • A restaurant chain in Omaha, Nebraska involving E.coli O157:H7 allegations;
  • A national Tex-Mex restaurant chain in Maryland involving food allergens.

Most recently he obtained a defense verdict in a jury trial involving security issues in South Florida where the Plaintiff suffered a gun shot wound to the head.

Joe is also Food Safety certified by the National Restaurant Association’s Educational Foundation accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) – Conference for Food Protection (CFP).  He speaks regularly in the areas of product liability and food safety related matters.
