Ronald G. Guziak is a Partner Emeritus of the Firm. He has over thirty five years of trial and litigation experience in the areas of medical malpractice, products liability, construction accident litigation, premises liability, toxic torts, legal malpractice, civil rights, transportation (truck and bus), and college/university liability litigation. Mr. Guziak has been recognized as a Top Rated Lawyer in Washington, D.C. by Lexis Nexis Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Guziak's litigation experience began as a lawyer in the Army Staff Judge Advocate’s Office. He prosecuted and defended numerous special and general court martials and was named an Army Senior Trial Specialist. Thereafter, he entered private practice and continued his litigation and trial experience with two insurance defense law firms beginning in 1976, trying numerous cases in both the District of Columbia and in Maryland.
In 2000, Mr. Guziak left his partnership and former firm to join Bonner Kiernan where his malpractice and major accident litigation has expanded and evolved in his defending the firm’s most serious medical malpractice and catastrophic lost cases. Recently, he has further expanded his practice into aviation litigation and defending wrongful death and catastrophic injury claims resulting from a medivac helicopter crash.
The majority of Mr. Guziak's cases as lead defense counsel over the last twenty years had involved wrongful death claims and/or catastrophic injuries. The medical malpractice cases include every aspect of physician/hospital care to include alleged OB/GYN negligence allegedly resulting in birth defects, cerebral palsy, shoulder dystocia, and misdiagnoses of cancer resulting in death and mastectomy; premises liability defense allegedly resulting in murder, rape, and assault and battery; construction litigation and OSHA violations involving perimeter falls, crane, vehicle and equipment accidents and resulting injuries, death, spinal injuries, brain damage and electrocution. Toxic tort defense, including asbestos, oil spills, sick building syndrome, and resulting respiratory distress syndrome, product liability defense resulting in amputation, fires, burns and vehicle turnovers.
During the course of his career, Mr. Guziak has represented approximately fifteen to twenty hospitals, radiology centers, and nursing homes in the District of Columbia and Maryland; fifty to sixty property owners, management companies, hotels, most of the major local universities and colleges and countless number of businesses, stores and other commercial properties in the Washington, DC Metropolitan areas.
Mr. Guziak has first chaired nearly every type of insurance related defense case, and thus has had a broad spectrum of trial and litigation experience with a more recent focus on medical malpractice and aviation defense.
Mr. Guziak is a member of the District of Columbia, Maryland and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. He is also a member of Counselors, the D.C. Defense Lawyer’s Association and the Defense Research Institute. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland in both the local and federal courts.
He graduated from Duquesne University School of Law undergraduate in 1968 and received his J.D. from Duquesne in 1971.
