Stephen E. Hughes is a Partner in the Firm’s Boston, MA office. He has been litigating matters in the areas of employment discrimination, civil rights, environmental liability, architects/engineers liability, construction defects, railroad liability under the Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA), general liability, commercial disputes, and insurance matters since 1997.
Mr. Hughes has tried cases in federal and state court, and before administrative law bodies, including the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, in many areas of the law. In addition, he has been successful in obtaining the dismissal of numerous cases through various dispositive motions, and in achieving beneficial settlements. Although the majority of his work has involved defending clients, he has prosecuted commercial claims and achieved substantial settlements on behalf of the firm’s clientele. Currently, Mr. Hughes is involved in defending our clients in various forums on matters involving civil rights, environmental contamination and personal injury claims.
Mr. Hughes is admitted to the Bar in Massachusetts (1995), U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts (1998), U.S. Court of Appeals - First Circuit (2001), and U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut (2007). He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association (Labor and Employment section, and Employee Rights and Responsibilities Practice Group).
Mr. Hughes graduated with a B.S. from Northwestern University in 1975 and received a M.S. in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University in 1979. After working as a film and television producer for more than a decade he returned to academia in 1992. He graduated magna cum laude, receiving his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1995.
